On Wednesday night, New Glasgow Police and New Glasgow Fire Department responded to a series of arsons at several businesses on East River Road and a threat to the Aberdeen Hospital. Preliminary investigation indicated that there were no injuries and no threat to public safety. New Glasgow Police have arrested a 30 year-old-man from Pictou County for arson and uttering threats. New Glasgow Police continue to investigate.
The Municipality of Pictou County says it is hearing reports again of people going door-to-door promoting solar from the Municipality. The Municipality of Pictou County has a program that finances energy-efficiency upgrades, including solar, but it does not solicit door-to-door.
A new Abacus Data poll suggests approval of Premier Tim Houston’s government has partially recovered after falling sharply following major budget cuts earlier this year. Thirty-five per cent of respondents approved of the government’s performance, up five points from July, while about 40 per cent of decided voters said they intend to vote for the Progressive Conservatives. The N-D-P rose two points to 33 per cent, while Liberal support was unchanged at 22 per cent.
U-S President Donald Trump says the prospect of Canada joining the European Union — even as its first associate member — is “laughable.”
He says if Canada joins up with the E-U, it could be a hostile act and that he would respond with heavy tariffs on Europe.
Trump’s remarks came after he signed a memorandum on Wednesday directing federal agencies overseeing government procurement in the U-S to remove all products of Canadian origin.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has warned that Canada’s pivot away from the United States will come at a cost, but that the alternative would be far worse.
