A new poll suggests a majority of Nova Scotians are dissatisfied with Premier Tim Houston’s majority government. The Narrative Research survey says 59 per cent of respondents said they were dissatisfied with the province’s Progressive Conservative government The research firm suggests Nova Scotians’ disappointment with the Tories may stem from recent budget cuts that hit the arts and cultural communities, the state of the health-care system and perceived favouritism toward business interests. The survey results are based on 734 online surveys with eligible voters completed between June 10th and June 17th.

An Independent MLA is launching a lawsuit against the provincial government in a bid to get all tolls removed from a stretch of the Trans Canada Highway that goes through the Cobequid Pass. Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin, the MLA for Cumberland North, announced her lawsuit Friday. Smith-McCrossin says her lawsuit is questioning the rationale for the Cobequid Pass tolls. Premier Tim Houston removed the tolls for vehicles with Nova Scotia license plates but all vehicles from out of province still have to pay to use the pass.

A heads-up from the Department of Public Works about road and bridge work that’s taking place. Highway 106 between the Pictou Rotary and the ferry terminal in Caribou is reduced to one lane for about four kilometres for paving until Monday, August 31. The Moore’s Ford Bridge on West Branch Road is closed until further notice. The detour route includes West Branch Road, College Grant Road and Route 256. And, the Welsford Bridge on Old Pictou Road is closed until further notice. The detour route includes Old Pictou Road, Allen Road, Trunk 6 and River John Road.

Stephen Eustaquio scored in the second minute of second-half stoppage time in Los Angeles on Sunday as Canada beat South Africa 1-0 in the first knockout game of the World Cup. Canada will play the winner of today’s round-of-32 matchup between the Netherlands and Morocco on July 4th in Houston.
