New Glasgow Police have arrested three young people in connection with a fire earlier this month at the Pioneer Trail Foot Bridge. The fire on May 6th caused extensive damage to the walking surface of the bridge, and it remains closed to pedestrians as damage assessments continue. The investigation determined that the fire had been deliberately set, and three youths have been arrested and will face charges of Arson damage to property. They’ve been released with dates to appear in Youth Provincial Court.

A missing newborn in Halifax has been found dead.
The search began after a 23-year-old woman, who appeared to have recently given birth, arrived at a local hospital in life-threatening condition on Friday night.
On Sunday afternoon, police said the remains of an infant were found in a wooded area off Old Coach Road.
A man and a woman, who police say are related to the woman, are charged with concealing the body of a child, obstruction and indignity to a dead body.
The union in Nova Scotia representing about 35-hundred striking long-term care workers has rejected the government’s claim that the union refused to return to the bargaining table on the weekend.
On Saturday, Seniors Minister Barbara Adams said the government asked to resume negotiations Friday, Saturday or Sunday, but Adams said the union decided to wait.
On Sunday, the Canadian Union of Public Employees denied that accusation, saying it had been in talks with the government about returning to the table last week, which included the possibility of meeting over the weekend.
Unionized workers at 35 long-term care facilities have been on strike for six weeks, pushing the government for higher wages and better benefits. Among those on strike are workers at Shiretown and Ivey’s Terrace Nursing Homes in Trenton, Maritime Odd Fellows in Pictou, Valley View Villa in Stellarton and Glen Haven Manor in New Glasgow
The Interrupter Clause was invoked over the weekend for a change in gas prices that took effect on Saturday. The price of regular gasoline went down by 7.2 cents per litre, while the price of premium gasoline went down by 6.3 cents per litre. The minimum pump price for regular self serve gasoline is now $1.86 per litre in the local area. There was no change in diesel prices.
A new poll has found 47 per cent of Canadians believe the country is heading in the right direction.
That’s the highest percentage since 2017.
The poll from Abacus Data found 39 per cent of the more than 19-hundred people surveyed this month say the country is on the wrong track.
The survey also suggests a majority of Canadians see the rest of the world as moving in the wrong direction.
