U-S President Donald Trump’s pledge to provoke a sweeping tariff fight with Europe to get his way in taking control of Greenland has left many of America’s closest allies warning of a rupture with Washington capable of shattering the NATO alliance.
The “rupture” comment came from Prime Minister Mark Carney in his well-received speech Tuesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Carney warned of global fissures beyond the Danish-owned island of Greenland.
He suggested it was an “illusion” that there is still a rules-based international order, and said, “We are in the midst of a rupture, not a transition.”
Today, Carney will meet with investors and attend a lunch with other national leaders before flying home to Ottawa.
