Nova Scotia’s police oversight agency is investigating after R-C-M-P shot at and killed a man near Sipekne’katik First Nation Tuesday morning. Yesterday, R-C-M-P issued an alert for residents of Hants and Colchester counties warning of a man with a firearm driving in the area. R-C-M-P say they worked to stop the vehicle, which then went off the road and came to a stop on Hwy. 236 near the intersection with Hwy. 202. At that point, shots were fired and the man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Nova Scotia’s auditor general is again calling for tighter oversight of government spending outside the provincial budget. Kim Adair’s report on Tuesday says the province spent 1.6-billion dollars last year without prior approval from the legislature, bringing the total to more than 6.7-billion dollars since 2020.
Adair says Nova Scotia’s Finance Act allows the cabinet alone to approve extra spending. The government says the spending helped speed up health-care improvements, but opposition legislature members argue transparency is lacking as provincial debt continues to grow
Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday, when the two leaders are expected to sign various joint agreements. The P-M will also meet with the second- and third-most powerful leaders in China’s communist system — the caretaker of China’s economy and chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. Carney’s trip will likely be top of mind for Western and Atlantic premiers seeking relief from China’s heavy tariffs on pork, canola and seafood.
