Negotiations between Canada Post and striking postal workers remain on hold.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers said late Monday a new framework for negotiations that Canada Post presented over the weekend remains far from what members could ratify.
A union statement says while there was movement on the defined benefit pension, there were no fixes for the union’s health and safety concerns and not enough movement on benefits.
Some 55-thousand postal workers walked off the job on November 15th.
The Nova Scotia N-D-P is calling on the Progressive Conservative government to permanently remove the H-S-T from groceries that aren’t already exempt from the tax. The New Democrats say many Nova Scotians are paying more than they can afford for essentials. N-D-P Leader Claudia Chender says removing the H-S-T would put more money into the pockets of Nova Scotians ahead of the holidays. The federal government passed a bill in the House of Commons last week to implement a two-month tax holiday, and Chender says the P-C government should now remove the province’s portion of the tax on groceries.
Residents can share feedback on the draft Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use Bylaw at the Imagine Municipality of Pictou County Draft Engagement Community Workshop tonight. It’s at 6:30pm at Union Centre Community Hall.
The Town of New Glasgow is advising that East River Road from Atlantic Dr. to Temperance St. will have lane closures with traffic control in place this week through Friday from 6:00am to 7:00pm daily. The closures are needed to complete road maintenance work along East River Road. Detours are in place.
