Here are the election results for six municipalities in Pictou County.
In the Town of New Glasgow, Nancy Dicks beat Mark Firth for Mayor, getting 78% of the vote. Elected to Council were Clyde Fraser and Dawn Peters in Ward 2, and Jessica MacDonald and Joe MacDonald in Ward 3.
In the Town of Trenton, Alec Dove was elected as Mayor. Elected to Council were Scott Cameron, Donald Cullen, Nicole LeBlanc and Stephanie MacKinnon.
In the Town of Stellarton, Darren Stroud was elected as Mayor. Elected as Councillors in Ward 1 were Sandra Eis and Mark Fortune. Elected as Councillors in Ward 2 were Susan Campbell and Garry Pentz.
In the Town of Westville, Lennie White was elected as Mayor. Elected to Council were Helen Dunn, Danielle Fraser, Michell MacGregor and Sarah MacKinnon.
In the Town of Pictou, elected to council were Robert Fry, Krista Fulton, Matthew Harris, and Nadine LeBlanc.
In the Municipality of Pictou County, elected
to Council were Joe MacDonald, Darla MacKeil, Ronnie Baillie, Donald Parker, Larry Turner, Peter Boyles, Randy Palmer, and Andy Thompson.
It’s provincial election day in New Brunswick.
Progressive Conservative Leader Blaine Higgs is seeking a third term as premier, and presented voters with a two-page platform containing 11 promises.
By contrast, the Liberals led by Susan Holt have made 100 campaign promises — many of which focus on health care and housing.
The R-C-M-P have issued a provincewide arrest warrant for a man wanted for possession of a dangerous weapon, uttering threats and breaking and entering. Police say 30-year-old Justin Ray Rushton from Glenholme is also facing charges of auto theft and mischief following an incident Thursday night reported in Great Village. The Mounties in Colchester County say Rushton may be travelling in a white, Ford F-350 pickup with a Nova Scotia plate. Rushton is described as 5-foot-11, 180 pounds and he has blond hair, blue eyes and a neck tattoo.
On Sunday, members of New Glasgow Regional Police attended the 42nd annual Nova Scotia Fallen Peace Officers’ Memorial at Grand Parade, Halifax. The memorial is a deeply significant occasion to remember and pay tribute to the brave peace officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
Their dedication and selflessness are a powerful reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face every day to protect our communities.
