Slut the Play a social justice play written by New York award winning playwright Katie Cappiello produced by Pictou County Women’s Resource and Sexual Assault Centre (PCWRSAC) with local director Dawn Peters and a community cast will be at New Glasgow Square Theatre March 8th from 2 – 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm. Thanks to funding from Standing Together Domestic Violence Prevention Grant the play will be free. Donations to PCWRSAC are always welcome and will be used to support period poverty.
Be part of making a change through taking part in the empowering, provocative, gritty journey of Slut. Theatre raises awareness challenges rape culture where sexual violence is common place in the day to day lives too many. It’s time to make a difference.
Slut tells the experience of one young woman’s story of sexual assault without judgment it weaves layers of her community’s response through rage, sorrow and humour ultimately leading to hope and empowerment. Following the play there will be a safe space for conversation. With this experience we can shift and move forward together to support and build loving future for all.
2016, Slut debuted in Pictou County supported through funding by United Way of Pictou County. Their support made a big ripple reaching sold out audiences and leading to many conversations building awareness and safe spaces. MORPH (Mapping Our Road to Power and Healing) a United Way supported program offers navigation and trauma informed support groups for women, youth and men who have survived sexual violence.
