New Glasgow Police issued an advisory Sunday indicating there was an increased police presence in the lower Birchview Crescent area of New Glasgow as officers responded to an ongoing investigation. Police said at the time that there was no threat to public safety, but they did ask people to avoid the area while police investigators continued to work in the area.
Pictou County District RCMP say that the 16-year-old youth who was reported missing over the weekend and last seen on Friday in Plymouth, has been located safe. The RCMP thanks the public for assisting through social media shares and offering tips.
A new report from Canada’s central bank will come out later today. The Bank of Canada will publish its business outlook survey and Canadian survey of consumer expectations. The report comes ahead of the central bank’s next interest rate decision and monetary policy report set for next week on July 15th.
Last Friday’s hot weather turned out to be record-breaking, here in Nova Scotia and across the Maritimes. Environment Canada says Halifax’s new record is 32.8 degrees, the hottest since it reached 30.6 degrees on July 3rd, 1981.
Elsewhere in the region, Charlottetown saw temperatures reach 30.8 degrees, beating the 30-degree record for July 3rd set in 1873. Saint John, New Brunswick hit 33.6 degrees, beating the old record of 31.7 degrees for July 3rd set in 1887.
What a weekend for Special Olympics Pictou County at the Special Olympics Nova Scotia Provincial Games on the weekend. Highlights included Cody Turner winning gold in the 1500m; Shey MacDonald Silver medal 200m; all swimmers coming home with medals; Gold for one of the Bocce teams; a bronze medal for the soccer team; and all athletes with the Pictou County Dragonflies earning medals.
