Police have laid charges against two people for allegedly kidnapping a man in the Truro area. R-C-M-P say that on Wednesday morning, officers responded to a report of a kidnapping from a home on Vimy Road in Bible Hill. Later that morning, officers stopped a motorcycle that was carrying the alleged victim and a man who had apparently helped him escape his alleged kidnappers. That afternoon in Bible Hill, police arrested a man and a woman who were later charged with kidnapping.

New Glasgow Police partnered with Vehicle Transportation Inspection officers last Tuesday in conducting checkpoints with a focus on vehicle safety, driver compliance, and education. More than 400 vehicles were stopped and inspected during those checkpoints. Officers identified a number of violations including invalid and fake inspection stickers; no vehicle registration; excessive window tint; and vehicles that failed safety inspections.
The head of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union says cuts to the education sector will further strain classrooms at a time when school violence is rising. Education Department data show an increase in violent incidents in schools during the five-year period that ended with the 2024-25 academic year. More than 27-thousand violent incidents were recorded during the 2024-25 school year, compared with more than 21-thousand cases the year before. Meanwhile, the department is cutting about 69 positions across the school system, including literary specialists and math coaches.
Canada Post workers wrapped up voting on new tentative agreements Saturday after more than two years of labour strife. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers says the results should be released today. The five-year contract proposal includes wage increases of 6.5 per cent and three per cent in the first two years. Workers having taken to the picket line on multiple occasions throughout the bargaining process.
The federal government is expected to introduce its A-I strategy within days.
The policy has been delayed amid growing public concern about the technology’s social impacts and safety.
Artificial Intelligence Minister Evan Solomon initially promised the strategy would be tabled by the end of last year based on an adoption-focused approach.
Last fall, the government appointed a task force for advice — critics said that group leaned too much on industry and the tech sector.
