The Town of New Glasgow has announced that it will host a Public Forum on Community Safety, Addressing the Impacts of Homelessness, Addiction and Mental Health. It will be held on Wednesday, October 1st, at 6:00 p.m. at the Glasgow Square Theatre.
In recent months, there have been escalating concerns regarding the growth of encampments, open drug use, safety in public spaces, and the operations of Viola’s Place. The Town says the forum will provide an opportunity for open dialogue and information-sharing between residents, local leaders, and service providers.
New polls show that a majority of Nova Scotians are satisfied with the performance of both the provincial and federal governments. The polling firm, Narrative Research, says its latest poll found 57 per cent of Nova Scotians are satisfied with the performance of Tim Houston’s Progressive Conservative government. That’s up two points compared to the last poll in May. The poll shows 35 per cent are dissatisfied with the performance of the PC provincial government. Meanwhile, Narrative Research says that about 59 per cent of Nova Scotians are satisfied with the overall performance of the federal government led by Liberal Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The Bank of Canada is less worried about inflation and more concerned about a slowing economy. The central bank cut its key interest rate Wednesday by a quarter-point, to 2.5 per cent. Bank of Canada governor Tiff Macklem predicts the country will avoid a recession this year. The bank has signalled it will look on a shorter horizon than usual as it tries to set monetary policy in a constantly shifting environment.
