New routes are expected to roll out in the fall.
Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq leaders are calling on Ottawa to urgently address the income assistance disparity they say is keeping some families on reserve in deep poverty.

James Michael, a lead negotiator with the group, says the income assistance disparity is keeping some people on reserve in “deep poverty.”
Michael says the federal rates are as low as 13 dollars-a-day for a single person living on a reserve, which is not enough to cover a person’s food or other basic necessities.
