The RCMP is investigating a fatal collision in Salt Springs. Early last Thursday night, the RCMP, fire services, and EHS all responded to a report of a motorcycle crash on Hwy. 104. RCMP officers arrived to learn that a westbound motorcycle left the roadway and came to rest in the median. The motorcyclist, a 61-year-old man from Amherst, died at the scene. An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene and is assisting in the investigation.

New Glasgow Regional Police continue to investigate an arson at the Pizza Delight on East River Road in New Glasgow. The fire occurred Tuesday sometime between 1:00am and 2:00am. The preliminary investigation determined that the fire was deliberately set. Police say the building sustained substantial damage to the interior. Anyone with any information is asked to contact New Glasgow Regional Police or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.
Nova Scotia’s commanding R-C-M-P officer is saying the Mounties have learned lessons from the mass shooting and is ready to take on more work in the province. A public inquiry identified serious failures in the Mounties’ response to the April 2020 killings of 22 people, and called for major improvements. In a review into policing released by the Progressive Conservative government last week, the justice minister indicated an expansion of the Mounties is included in its plans. R-C-M-P Assistant Commissioner Dennis Daley says the force has made investments in emergency response, technology and improvements in public alerts.
The United States is stepping up pressure on trading partners to quickly make new deals before a Wednesday deadline when a tariff pause by President Donald Trump expires.
There are plans for the U-S to start sending letters on Monday, warning countries that higher tariffs could kick in on August 1st.
It furthers the uncertainty for businesses, consumers, and America’s trading partners.
Questions remain about which countries will be notified, or whether anything will change in the days ahead.
