The G-7 leaders’ summit ended Tuesday after two days of discussions about global economics and security.
The leaders issued several joint statements on areas of co-operation, such as critical minerals, artificial intelligence, and migrant smuggling.
There was notably no joint statement on the war in Ukraine, even though the Liberals had made support for the country one of the most essential topics of Canada’s G-7 presidency.

Farmers are concerned about a fungal pathogen that harms the strawberry crop. The disease — called Neopestalotiopsis — has reached P-E-I and could potentially spread into Nova Scotia. Some harvesters say they’re worried because the disease can devastate a whole crop in a few days — and control measures are ineffective. Horticulture Nova Scotia says farmers need to keep an eye out this summer for brown spots on their leaves, which is one of the symptoms.
The Town of New Glasgow is advising that vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be disrupted at Westville Road and Stellarton Road traffic lights today. Temporary stop signs will be in place as the traffic lights will be turned off for electrical work. Work is expected to take the entire day.
The Town of New Glasgow will kick off Canada Day Celebrations with a free family event on Monday, June 30th. It will feature live entertainment, family activities, and special recognition of the 150th anniversary of New Glasgow’s incorporation as a Town. This year’s annual Pre-Canada Day Celebration will take place from 5:30-7:30pm at the Scott W. Weeks Sports Complex in Parkdale. The evening’s entertainment is headlined by Petra Moriarty, the 2024 winner of the Jubilee’s Battle of the Bands, along with a new local group Switch-Up.

The Florida Panthers repeated as Stanley Cup champions on Tuesday night, beating the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 in Game 6 of the final. They are the NHL’s first back-to-back winners since Tampa Bay in 2020 and ’21 and the third team to do it this century. Sam Reinhart scored four of the five goals, including the Cup clincher. Canada’s Stanley Cup drought reached 32 years.
