Police have charged a 26-year-old woman with attempted murder after a 33-year-old man was stabbed in Truro, in what authorities say was a case of intimate partner violence. The Truro Police Service says officers received a report about the stabbing on Friday night, and responded to a house soon after. Police arrived to find a man with serious injuries and gave him life-saving first aid before he was taken to hospital. Officers arrested the 26-year-old woman at the scene without incident and she was charged with attempted murder and violation of a court order prohibiting her to have contact with the victim.

Colchester County District RCMP have arrested and charged several people after a break-in at a home where multiple firearms were stolen. Early last Monday night, RCMP responded to a reported break-in earlier in the day at a home on Adam McCallum Rd. In the investigation, police learned that three men in masks had entered the home and stolen a variety of items, including two shotguns and a rifle. Three residents were home at the time but there were no reported injuries. On Wednesday, police executed a search warrant at a home on Lockhart Ave. in Truro as part of the investigation. Officers arrested six people and seized items related to the break-in. Two men from Truro, a 28-year old and 27-year old are facing numerous charges.
A woman was arrested on unrelated matters and the three others were released without charges.
A warning from the Nova Scotia RCMP about a new phishing scam that’s taking place via text message. Potential victims receive unsolicited, fictitious text messages of an “RCMP Delivery Notice.” The texts state that the RCMP has been unable to deliver court documents and ask people to “please reschedule the delivery to avoid missing your court date by using the link below.” The RCMP stresses that it does not issue notices by text message. Don’t click on the link and don’t provide any personal information.
The New Glasgow Regional Police has announced the appointment of Nick Hirtle as the new Deputy Chief of Police. Hirtle has been a member of the New Glasgow Regional Police since 2007, and officially assumed his new role on January 6th.
The MV Northumberland (formerly the MV Fanafjord) arrived in Canada on Sunday. The vessel, which will serve the Caribou-Wood Islands route, was acquired by the federal government as an interim replacement for the former MV Holiday Island, which had to be taken out of service after a fire in July of 2022. The MV Northumberland will now undergo final refit work to prepare for service. The vessel is expected to be ready for service for the beginning of the 2025 operating season.
