Antigonish County District R-C-M-P say three youths have been arrested following threats to several people on a university campus. Police say they received reports of youth threatening several people on a campus on October 4th and 5th — at both instances the suspects fled the scene. Mounties say two youths fled into a wooded area where they were later arrested – a day later a third youth was arrested. Mounties say all three are from Antigonish and no one was injured in the incidents nor were weapons recovered in the arrests.
On Monday night, at about 10:15 pm, a Truro Police officer on patrol located a man brandishing and waving a knife on Prince Street. The man was arrested without incident and taken into custody. The 53-year-old man is facing multiple charges including violation of a court order from the Halifax area.
The Province is set to reduce the assessment time for licensing internationally trained doctors. Premier Tim Houston says the move will allow those doctors to begin work sooner in Nova Scotia’s health system. Houston says a new Halifax-based clinic will assess international medical graduates starting early next year– cutting the assessment time from 18-months to 12-weeks. Program graduates will be required to sign a three-year service agreement to work in the province with an estimated 45 licences to be given out a year.
New Brooklyn Media has announced the screening of “Pictou County Style Pizza: A Short Documentary,” at the 14th Annual Devour! The Food Film Fest. It’s the largest food film festival in the world and will take place from October 21-27th in Wolfville. The film will be shown on Sunday, October 27, at 5 pm at the Al Whittle Theatre.
The film celebrates the unique culinary tradition of Pictou County style pizza, a dish that has become a cultural touchstone in Nova Scotia.
