Pictou County District RCMP continue to investigate and seek the suspect in an armed robbery Sunday night at a gas station on Bridge Ave. in Plymouth.
It happened at about 9:00pm, as a man entered the gas station, told an employee to give him the till and briefly displayed what the employee believed was a weapon in his waistband.
The man took cash from the till and ran off heading towards Foord St. in Stellarton.
The employee was not physically injured during the incident.
The man is described as 6-foot, with light brown hair and having a scruffy beard.
He is believed to be between 30 and 40 years old. The man was wearing a grey hoodie, white t-shirt, blue jeans, dark shoes with white soles and black sunglasses.
Nova Scotia will offer free practical nursing training for 25 continuing care assistants in exchange for a two-year commitment to continue to work in long-term or home care.
Barbara Adams, minister of seniors and long-term care, says the pilot program will reduce financial barriers and help attract workers to the continuing care sector.
The training takes two-and-a-half years and will start in January, with online classes and in-person labs at Nova Scotia Community College’s Truro campus.
The province will foot the bill for tuition, textbooks and the majority of fees for the students.
Mi’kmaw elder, activist, and author Daniel Paul has died at the age of 84.
Paul is a member of the Order of Canada and the Order of Nova Scotia.
A 49-year-old man has been arrested for human trafficking in Halifax and police believe there may be additional victims.
They say Edward Duane Garinger, who also goes by Edward Morrison and Ted Morrison, is charged with incidents that happened between January and March of this year.
Police in Ontario aided in the investigation that started in March when Halifax police received a report of human trafficking in the region.
Garinger was arrested in Ontario’s Niagara region and will return to Halifax to face charges.
Lifeguards are returning to a number of Nova Scotia beaches for the summer.
Starting this Saturday some two dozen beaches across the province will have lifeguard supervision from 10 a-m to 6-pm each day.
Most beaches will have lifeguards on duty until August 27th.
A big win for Nova Scotia singer-songwriter Terra Spencer.
Terra, who’s from Windsor, and her song Brick and Mortar have won the Commonwealth Song Contest.
Terra represented Canada as one of seven finalists for the competition.
In all, over 20-thousand songs had been submitted to the Commonwealth Song Contest between 2018 and 2022.
Over 15-thousand people took part in the initial round of public voting and over 10-thousand songwriters affiliated with the UK Songwriting Contest and the Guild of International Songwriters and Composers were invited to take part in the second and final round of voting.
Terra was up against grand finalists from Australia, Malta, Malaysia, Saint Lucia, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
