Both Gas and Diesel prices rose overnight in Nova Scotia. Regular Self-Serve gas is up 1.6 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price at 139.1 cents per litre. Diesel prices rose by 6.2 cents per litre, putting the minimum pump price at 188.3 cents per litre in the local area.
A small community in northeastern B.C. is grieving after a deadly mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge. Police say eight people were killed and about 25 others injured after an 18-year-old opened fire at a residence and Tumbler Ridge Secondary School before taking her own life.

A Porter Airlines flight from Toronto became disabled after landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport Wednesday night.
Airport officials say Flight 209 landed safely just after 8:20 p.m., but while exiting the runway the aircraft slid sideways in the snow and became stuck near the taxiway. Emergency crews responded and passengers were later de-planed and bused to the terminal.
The airline says 59 passengers and five crew members were on board and no injuries were reported. One runway remained closed overnight as crews worked to tow the aircraft, and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada has launched an investigation.
Today members of the community will gather at the Pictou County Wellness Centre for Breaking the Silence: A one-day forum on Gender based violence, Intimate partner violence, and human trafficking in our community. The forum is being held by the Pictou County Women’s Resource and Sexual Assault Centr and The Pictou County Interagency on Family Violence to come together and talk about these issues that our community faces. In 2024, Nova Scotia declared intimate partner violence an epidemic in the province, and in 2024 Nova Scotia had the highest police reported rate of Human Trafficking in the country.

At the Milano-Cortina Olympics, Canada earned multiple medals today, with Mikaël Kingsbury taking silver in men’s moguls and Éliot Grondin adding silver in men’s snowboard cross.
On the ice, Speed skater Courtney Sarault won bronze in the women’s 500-metre short-track. Canada’s men’s hockey team opened its Olympic campaign with a dominant 5–0 win over Czechia, highlighted by strong goaltending and scoring from stars like Connor McDavid and newcomer and first time Olympian Macklin Celebrini.
Meanwhile the women’s hockey team rebounded with a 5–0 victory over Finland, securing second place in their group as they head into the quarterfinals.
