Nova Scotia Health says there are now 44 confirmed cases of measles in the Northern Zone. A child has been hospitalized at the IWK Health Centre but is in stable condition, and officials say there’s no risk to others currently thanks to precautions taken by the family and hospital staff. No new public exposure sites have been identified. While more cases are expected, Public Health says the overall risk to the public remains low. Measles is highly contagious, and vaccination remains the best protection. In Nova Scotia, every person born after 1970 should receive two doses of the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine after their first birthday.
