The Nova Scotia government is increasing funds for university programs helping train new doctors. The government says there will be five more first-year seats reserved for Nova Scotia students starting in the fall, boosting the available seats in the doctor of medicine program at Dalhousie University in Halifax. The government says the additional seats will ensure there are 99 first-year seats in the program at Dalhousie’s Halifax campus and 30 first-year seats at the Cape Breton medical campus. The increased funding represents just over 2.2-million dollars of investment into the programs.

Statistics Canada says population growth in the country stalled in the first quarter of this year, only increasing by about 20-thousand people in the first three months of the year.
The nation’s population is now roughly 41-million-550-thousand.
This marks the sixth consecutive quarter of slower population growth after the federal government decided last year to lower the levels of both temporary and permanent immigration.
However, immigration still accounted for the population growth in the quarter, as there were roughly 56-hundred more deaths than births in Canada.
