The latest budget update from the provincial government is forecasting a deficit of 247.5 million dollars this fiscal year. That’s a 219.9 million dollar improvement from the 467.4 million deficit predicted in last February’s budget. Finance Minister John Lohr says the uptick is due to increases in provincial tax revenue of 642 million dollars. However, he says the revenue growth is offset by an increase in spending in health care and for support programs to address the cost of living.
