We are under a Snowfall Warning with Environment canada calling for 15 to 30 cm of snow from late this evening into Saturday afternoon. Gusty northeast winds with that snow may cause reduced visibility at times in blowing snow. the snow will change to ice pellets or rain Saturday morning for eastern areas of the province, reducing snowfall amounts.

With the heavy snowfall on the way, New Glasgow Regional Police remind you that the winter parking ban is now in effect for the Town of New Glasgow and Town of Trenton. Between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. until April 1st, vehicles must not be parked on a town street in both the town of New Glasgow and the Town of Trenton.
Gasoline prices and diesel prices both increased overnight in Nova Scotia. Gasoline prices increased by 1.5 cents per litre. The minimum pump price for regular self-serve gasoline is now 156.0 cents per litre in the local area. Diesel prices went up by 5.4 cents per litre, meaning the minimum pump price for diesel is 177.7 cents per litre locally.
The Provincial government will provide an update today on Nova Scotia’s finances.
The public briefing will be a first for Finance Minister John Lohr, who changed portfolios after the Progressive Conservatives under Premier Tim Houston were re-elected to govern on November 26th. Lohr was sworn in as a cabinet minister last week.
During the update in September, Houston’s government said the budget deficit was expected to increase to 654-million dollars — an increase of 187-million dollars from the projection made in the spring budget.
Nova Scotia’s Environment Minister says the province is “exploring opportunities” to ban the installation of oil-fired heating equipment in new buildings next year. The Progressive Conservative government pledged in its “Climate Change Action Plan” to “ban installations of oil-fired heating equipment in new buildings by 2025.” In an emailed statement, Environment Minister Tim Halman says “this work is complex and is being done in a way that considers affordability for Nova Scotians,” but he doesn’t say when the commitment will be completed. Environmental groups have said the ban on the furnaces in new buildings is an important part of the province’s efforts to shift away from fossil fuels.

The Pictou County Weeks Crushers game in the Valley Saturday against the Valley Wildcats has been postponed due to the impending weather forecast and expected travel conditions. An announcement will be made when the game is rescheduled.
