Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers continue to bargain over a pair of contracts for rural and suburban mail carriers.

The two sides came closer on some aspects of the contract agreement they are chasing, but officials say they are still quite far apart overall.

The union has called for a cumulative wage hike of 24 per cent over four years, while Canada Post has offered an 11.5 per cent increase.

The countrywide strike has forced postal deliveries to a standstill.

 

 

Canada’s annual inflation rate was two per cent in October — according to Statistics Canada.  With the national inflation numbers around the Bank of Canada’s two per cent target, the central bank is expected to continue cutting interest rates in the coming months, including in December.  Nova Scotia’s annual inflation rate in October was 1.5 per cent, up from September’s 0.9 per cent.

 

 

New Glasgow Regional Police are seeking information on the whereabouts of a man currently wanted on a province-wide arrest warrant.  35-year old Jonathan William Boutiler of  Pictou County is wanted and facing numerous charges including,

–          Using a Firearm in the Commission of an Offence.

–          Careless use of a Firearm.

–          Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose x2Counts.

–          Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.

–          Break, Enter.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jonathan William Boutiler is asked to refrain from approaching him, as he is considered possibly armed and dangerous, and contact New Glasgow Regional Police or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.

 

 

The Nova Scotia provincial election campaign is in its final week.  On Tuesday morning, Liberal Leader Zach Churchill made an announcement in Halifax about supporting renters; Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Houston made an announcement about highway infrastructure; and N-D-P Leader Claudia Chender voted at an advanced poll.

Elections Nova Scotia says 64-thousand early votes have been cast so far for the upcoming provincial election.  These early numbers from the provincial agency were recorded Monday.  The results show the number of early votes have declined when compared with the same period before the 2021 provincial election, when more than 75-thousand votes had been cast.
