Nova Scotia’s Progressive Conservative Party is promising that if re-elected its tax rates for small business will apply to about 19,100 more companies than currently receive the reduction. Party leader Tim Houston says under the proposal, the small business tax reduction will be available for enterprises with revenues of up to 700-thousand-dollars, rather than the current level of 500-thousand-dollars.
For businesses that quality, the tax rate for small business would drop from two-and-half per cent, to one-and-a-half per cent.
Liberal Leader Zach Churchill promised a better deal for Cape Breton Regional Municipality if the Liberals are elected. He says that would include an investment of $300-million to spur economic growth, improve local infrastructure, and alleviate the housing crisis in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
The N-D-P says if elected, the party would establish a rent-to-own home program for people who make less than 100-thousand-dollars annually.
It says the program would mean that monthly rental payments would go towards the eventual purchase of the home instead of going to a landlord.
N-D-P Leader Claudia Chender says by using prefabricated construction, nearly 500 rent-to-own homes could be built within the first year.
The Town of New Glasgow issued a statement Tuesday saying it is deeply saddened by the passing of former Fire Chief Doug Dort. Doug dedicated many years of service to the community, beginning as a paid-hourly member of the Fire Department and rising through the ranks to serve as both Deputy Chief and, ultimately, Fire Chief. Prior to his fire career, Doug also served as a constable with the New Glasgow Regional Police Department. The Town says that throughout his career, Doug’s leadership, dedication, and tireless commitment to the safety and well-being of residents made a lasting impact on the Town of New Glasgow.
