MAN ARRESTED FOR DRINKING AND DRIVING IN CARIBOU AREA THANKS TO REPORT FROM THE PUBLIC

RCMP are encouraging people to report others behind the wheel who are under the influence. That, after a 61-year-old man was picked up by Pictou District RCMP on Saturday afternoon the Caribou area. Officers say they had a call about an erratic driver and he ended up blowing the breathalyzer at three times the legal limit. The New Glasgow man charged faces a local judge on April 13th.
A Pictou County RCMP officer has been cleared after allegations that he sexually assaulted a younger woman last fall. The province’s Serious Incident Response Team says it was prompted by a complaint from a community member and came to their attention on November 7th. As part of the investigation, SiRT interviewed the woman who was alleged to have been assaulted, a number of civilian witnesses and also reviewed text messages. SiRT says as a result of all that, the sexual encounters can only be classed as consensual. While the police officer is older, investigators say the woman was a young adult throughout the time in question, and told them she did not want to get the man into trouble after texts showed a relationship based on consent.

Nova Scotia Power will be upgrading current electricity meters to smart meters in Pictou County between March – June 2020 as part of an investment in modernizing the province’s electricity grid, which will provide customers with more convenience, reliability and control. When the rollout of smart meters is complete in early 2021, Nova Scotia Power will begin turning on the smart technology for customers to start taking advantage of benefits that it says will include:
– Access to daily information on your energy consumption,
– Connecting or disconnecting your power more easily and faster, with no on-site appointment required.
– Smart meters will also notify Nova Scotia Power when the power goes out, helping them respond more quickly, if there’s a power outage. They’ve been controversial in some other provinces, but Nova Scotia Power is promising a smooth transition when they’re turned on in Pictou County early next year. (2021)

KEEP THE AIR MOIST TO AVOID SPREADING VIRUSES – EXPERTS
Medical experts are saying with flu season here and the world-wide scare over the coronavirus, you might want to put a kettle on to boil a little more often, or run an electric moisturizer on the corner shelf. Doctors say that’s because extra moisture in the air is good at trapping the virus and gravity helps to bring that trapped virus down the ground, where you are less likely to come into contact with it.
Also, viruses are more adapted to thriving in cooler, drier conditions. So if you keep the humidity at or above the 40 to 50 per cent mark, the virus survivability is reduced. That’s according to Dr. Ray Copes, who is the Chief of Environmental Health in Ontario and spoke to The Weather Network about lessening the chance of the flu and other viruses.
