Police have handed Shawn Wade Hynes a new charge in connection with the Sept. 19th nail-gun shooting at his work site in Abercrombie. NG News reports that Pictou County RCMP have charged Hynes with one count of assault with a weapon causing bodily harm. That’s on top of last September’s charge of criminal negligence. Hynes was first arrested on Sept. 27th, more than a week after being accused of shooting a co-worker in the back with an air-powered nail gun.
The victim’s family says the shooting came after weeks of racially charged harassment by Hynes. Despite that, Hynes has not been charged with a hate crime.

The Nova Scotia Lung Association says it’s time to alert young people to the real risks of vaping. The clean-breathing group says rising use of e-cigarettes among young people across the province is getting out of hand. The group’s director of health initiatives is Mohammed Al-Hamdani, who says more young people are being drawn to the product because it’s becoming trendy and the chemicals within the vapes are disguised with appealing flavours. He says the association has been flooded with calls from community groups and schools looking for advice on how to deal with vaping. Teachers are telling the Lung Association that when asked, most students in their classes indicate they either vape or they’ve tried it.
